The Aquacultural Research Center

Brazil

Santarem

The Aquacultural Research Center focuses on Aquaponic research and development in the amazon river basin. The facility draws water from the river into a series of aquacultural ponds and green houses. Fish waste from the ponds feeds the plants in the greenhouses, which then feed insects that can be turned into fish food. Other greenhouses create produce to sell at the local farmers market. Educational classes on how to operate these facilities teach local farmers to run there own facility to feed villages with fish and produce along the river. The solar panel array both shades the facility as well as provides power for all the facility systems and sensors.
